Celebrities want Nobel Prize for Syrian help group

Several Hollywood stars supporting a proposal to give the Nobel Peace Prize to the Syrian aid group White helmets. The proposal coincides with the premiere of a documentary film about the group.

George Clooney, Sacha Baron Cohen, Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys are among the celebrities who have gone out with a request that the White Helmets should get the Nobel Peace Prize.
The documentary about the group produced by streaming service Netflix and premieres on Friday.

– Our goal is not to get the peace prize, but that the war in Syria to end and that civilians should be spared this carnage, said Ibrahim al Hajj, who chairs the White Helmets in the rebel-controlled areas east of Aleppo. He adds that he is pleased that Hollywood stars helps attention to the group.

White helmets were founded in 2013 and provides support in the areas of Syria where there is no access to aid. Among other things, they dig survivors out of bombed buildings.

The group claims that they have saved 60,000 lives in areas controlled by rebel groups.
