This year’s Norwegian Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square has not lived up to expectations.

‘Is it supposed to look like a large, illuminated cucumber’, asked a twitter user.

According to Dagbladet, many more of London’s citizens have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the tree that was unveiled on Friday.

‘If the Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square is anything to go by, Norway must obviously hate London’, wrote another Twitter user.

The tree is described as long, thin and looking anything but lush. Dissatisfaction has also featured in London’s Evening Standard newspaper.

It is Oslo that delivers the tree, which is an offering for the British effort during World War II.

There have been 73 trees in the series so far, and Oslo’s Mayor, Marianne Borgen, takes the criticism with a smile.

‘That there have been some different comments on it, shows just how important it is as a symbol of gratitude after World War II, and proof of the friendship
between Oslo and London’, she said.
