When it is not comfortable to be outside, it is good to get inside. The Crown Princess Mette-Marit experienced this several ways when she visited the language cafe at Bergen Public Library on Wednesday.

During the downpour, the Crown Princess arrived at the library in the city center on Wednesday afternoon. There, she was able to lead the conversation around one of the tables at the weekly language cafe, an offer for those who learn Norwegian or want to do it. It has also become popular for those who speak Norwegian and want to chat with someone in a learning situation. The event has become a way for participants to get a little inside of the Norwegian society, but it is also popular for the Norwegians who want to come slightly inside of other cultures.

The Crown Princess’s visit was the first stop for her Literature train 2016, which this year has actually the theme of being left alone. On Wednesday night, there will be a program at the House of Literature in Bergen, which includes excerpts from the Swedish-Tunisian Jonas Hassen Khemiris piece “substantially equal.” On Thursday, the train will go from Bergen via Voss to Gol, and on Friday via Hønefoss to Oslo. At each stop, there will be a program to inspire reading and book joy.
