Crown Princess Mette-Marit gave a speech during Thursday’s opening of the Petter Dass festival in Alstahaug.
– I have been looking very much forward to finally experiencing this cultural festival, which in Petter Dass’ own spirit unites several artistic expressions, such as literature, music and visual arts, in wonderful surroundings. It’s a great experience to be here, the Crown Princess said in her speech.
The theme of this year’s festival is the second commandment of the Mosaic Law, “You shall not misuse the name of God.” The festival organizers are looking at this topic in connection with the freedom of expression and contemporary taboos.
– This way the festival shows how important it is to remain relevant, to intertpret the textual heritage in a way that brings it into our times, the Crown Princess said.
Amal Aden and Knut Nærum are among the speakers who will talk about taboos and the freedom of expression.
