Eleven years ago Olivier Mukata (28) came to Norway. Friday he got Amanda Award in category Best Supporting Actor for his efforts in asylum centers comedy “Welcome to Norway”.
Mukuta spent much of his childhood in a refugee camp in Malawi.
– One day I was a refugee, today I am standing here with this award, said Mukuta from the stage to the great response from the audience.
Role Abedi in “Welcome to Norway” is his first major film role.
– I never thought it would happen. This shows that all refugees can follow their dreams and achieve what they want, he says to TV2 backstage after receiving the price.
One of those who seem to stir the tears of the Mukata got price, were co-stars in the film, Anders Baasmo Christiansen.
– This was very, very touching. It is extra strong because of what Olivier has been through. He is a man that’s worth listening to, he is very clever, says Christiansen, who won the award for best leading actor in the same film.
