King and Queen conclude the celebration of the 25th anniversary by inviting the public to outdoor cinema in the Royal Palace next week. At the actual wall of the castle the movie “The King’s Choice” will be shown.

At 20 Wednesday next week the audience is invited to the cinema. The film is to be shown at the castle’s north wall.

The castle asks the audience to bring their own seating pad and find space on the grass in the castle’s gardens.

King and Queen, Crown Prince and Princess and Princess Astrid will be present during the screening, along with a group of specially invited war veterans.

– It has been a wonderful anniversary year, and the royal family wants to end as they began – with an open event in Castle Park, says communications manager Marianne Hagen at the Royal Palace to news agency NTB.

Oscar candidate

The movie “The King’s Choice” was recently chosen to be Norway’s candidate in the race to be the best non-English language film at the Oscars. The film screening in Slottsparken September 20th will be before the premiere.

The film is about the three dramatic days in April 1940 in which the Norwegian king gets an ultimatum from the German army: surrender or death.
King Harald was three years old when he and his family had to flee. There are two reasons why this particular movie was selected.

– One is that it is a historical film about the crucial days in our country’s history, and the second is that it is all about this family, says communications manager Marianne Hagen at the Royal Palace said.

– None of the royal have seen the movie. The king has said that he is looking forward to seeing it, she adds.

The film screening is done in collaboration with film company Paradox.

End of anniversary

It is the first time that a movie appears on a castle wall. However, it is not the first time a movie is presented in the castle. Queen Maud was a keen photographer and film enthusiast. She got rigged canvas and used the castle’s large banqueting hall as “home cinema,” says Castle.

The film screening will mark the end of the celebration of the royal couple’s 25 years on the throne. Anniversary celebrations began with a winter event in the Royal Palace on 17th January. From 18th to 29th June, the royal couple went on an anniversary trip from Tromso through Bodø, Trondheim, Bergen and Stavanger to Kristiansand.
