So far this year, 762 couples registered for Humanistic marriage. That’s an increase of over 6 percent from 2015, and almost 14 percent in the past five years.
In South Trondelag it has increased by 58 percent and in Telemark the increase was 52 percent, while Møre and Romsdal has a growth of 41 percent in humanist marriages.
Lene Mürer ceremony chief of Humanist Association is pleased with the numbers.
– This is wonderful to see that many newlyweds choose us this year. It shows that our skilled solemnizer contributes to great ceremonies across the country.
We also know that more are coming to us for being a guest in a Humanistic marriage and that many couples appreciate the freedom to even influence the content of the ceremony, she said.
Mürer think development will continue.
– Society is changing. Norway’s population is becoming more diverse and secular and research shows that the demand for alternatives to ecclesiastical ceremonies is growing, she says.
