Members of religious communities that do not belong to the Norwegian Church have increased by 46 percent over ten years.

– A significant portion of the membership increase is due to immigration and that we see partly influx of Islam and Orthodoxy, says religious historian Kari Vogt to newspaper Dagen.

Now there are over 530,000 Norwegians who are members of a religious and belief communities outside the Norwegian Church, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB).

The numbers of Muslim members have almost doubled in a decade with 69,000 registered last year.
The Orthodox Church has the highest increase in percentage. The numbers of members have increased from about 5,494 to 17,476 which represent 218 percent.
