Summer marked in Gamle Stavanger

The Preservation Association Gamle Stavanger (Old Town) invites you to this year’s summer market. At the Norwegian Canning Museum you can taste freshly prepared salmon straight from the smoking oven Sunday, June 3rd.

This year’s probably most cozy summer tradition is when the Preservation Association in Gamle Stavanger invites you to their summer market.

Now it’s once again time for the event: set aside Sunday, June 3rd.

The doors of the ateliers and workshops open at 11 am, and residents of the cobbled streets will invite you to visit until 4 pm.

Throughout Old Town, all ateliers, workshops and museums are open. Take the opportunity to have a look at exciting activities taking place in the historic part of the city.

What is an Iddis?

At the Norwegian Canning Museum you can taste freshly prepared salmon straight from the embers of the smokehouse.

Norway Brand Iddis Club is present, and the members here have great Iddises on display. If you didn’t know; an Iddis is the local name for the various brand stickers put on fish cans. Perhaps you have some yourself as well, which you would like to swap? Bring them along!

You can change outfits and test yourself as a factory worker at the canning table. The workers worked on a chord – the quicker they were, the more they earned. Test yourself and find out how much time you need to put the brisling sardines correctly into the can.

Guided tours are provided throughout the event and available on request, in Norwegian or English, according to your wishes and needs.

In the workman’s home next door to the factory the cafe is open. Here you will be tempted by the best waffles in town, accompanied by hot and cold beverages.
