42 crafts are in danger of dying out due to lack of recruitment.
Crafts such as gunsmithing, blacksmithing, plaster making, cabinet making and braziering are all on the list, which is compiled by the Vocational Committee of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Conservation Subjects, the newspaper Klassekampen writes. Only 190 people received training or became journeyman in the 42 crafts on the lists in the years 2007 to 2014.
The Committee believes that the  responsibility for these programs should pass from the counties to the state.
– Part of the problem is that there is no comprehensive survey on the places in Norway where these crafts are being taught. There are many people teaching their crafts, but they are not coordinated in any way,  committee chair Kirsti Kolle Grøndahl says.
– I’m open to different solutions that are not a part of the current structure. But we have to get back to what needs to be done to solve this problem. First, trade organizations, employer organzation and other organizations who are involved in this will be presenting their proposals, says Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen.
