A cultural icon that has changed the way we speak. How was Gro Harlem Brundtland presented when she was an honorary doctorate at the Sorbonne.

The venerable University of Paris began using large function room for conferral Tuesday morning.

– Get Norwegians have characterized language as deeply as Gro Harlem Brundtland, said Frédérique Harry, associate professor of Scandinavian Studies, when she presented the former prime minister.

– Brundtland has become a cultural icon in his country, but also an extremely well-known international personality who has helped us to understand the challenges of our times better, Harry said.

She pointed out “it is typically Norwegian to be good” and “everything is connected to everything” as saying Brundtland has enriched the language with. But most important is perhaps “sustainable development”, the key concept in the report “Our Common Future”, as the Brundtland Commission presented in 1987.

Sustainable development means development that meets the contemporary needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their.

– For a foreigner it is surprising to see how she has planted seeds also in languages other than their own, said Harry.

Brundtland was Norway’s first female prime minister. She has held numerous positions in the UN system. She is a medical doctor.
