Fewer students in housing queues

10,612 students now queue to get a student housing. There are 1,720 fewer students this year than last year.

The figures are from an overview by the Norwegian student organization that has been working in cooperation with all student associations in Norway.

“It is good that fewer students are in the student housing queues. However, over 10,000 students waiting for student housing at the start of their studies are far too many. The first weeks will be used to get to know your fellow students and your subjects, not to be used stressing in finding a place to live,” says Håkon Randgaard Mikalsen, Norwegian Student Organization, in a press release.

The student organization indicates that the government has over time invested in the construction of student housing, and that is one of the reasons that fewer students are in line this year. However, they consider that the need is greater than the number of homes being built today.

– “The need for more student housing is still very big. If the government and the parliament continue to increase the number of places of study, they must also increase the building duty in the next few years. We must be able to concentrate on the studies and not about finding a place to live, even if we become more students,” says Mikalsen.
