Thousands of foreign workers can now have vocational training received in their home country, recognized in Norway. It can ensure them with higher salaries and prevent social dumping.

The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT) has been commissioned with the responsibility to quality assure foreign occupational educations, writes Klassekampen.

Before the new scheme was officially announced, applications started pouring into NOKUT, who already normally receive 10,000 applications annually for approval of higher education.

– We anticipate that this scheme will be larger, and hopefully within a very short time, says Joachim Kallevig in NOKUT.

Currently only German and Polish occupational educations within plumbing, hairdressing, meat cutting, carpentry and concrete cutting that are quality-assured. Additional disciplines and countries will be incorporated into the scheme on a continuous basis.
