Insufficient schooling of immigrant children will prove expensive to society

If Norwegian schools fail to provide children with an immigrant background good enough schooling, it will cost society 2.6 million kroner per child, according to a new report.

By the means of two studies done this spring, the Ministry has attempted to quantify what it will cost society if the schools fail to give immigrant children a good enough education.
– The reason why I’m concerned about this, is that we know there is a distinction in Norwegian schools based on where you or your parents were born. Viewed as a single group statistically weaker, immigrant children get poorer results in school than children from the general population. This violates the whole principle that school is to make the differences between students decrease, Education Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen said.
