Australian universities prohibit students/mentors sex

Australian universities have banned sexual and romantic relationships between doctoral students and their mentors.

The rule was adopted on Wednesday by Universities Australia, an umbrella organization for all the country’s universities.

– The educational situation of a student must never depend on a sexual relationship with the mentor or an employee, the rule states.

The regulation comes exactly one year after the country’s state human rights commission concluded that sexual harassment is a widespread issue at the country’s universities. Half of the Australian students report that they are subjected to sexual harassment annually, while 7 per cent say they have been sexually abused in the last two years.
