Queen Sonja’s School prize was on Tuesday handed to Ila school in Trondheim.

The award was presented by the Queen, who also did a tour of the Primary school.
Queen Sonja’s School prize is awarded annually to a school that has excelled in equality and inclusion.

16 schools were nominated for the award this year. The jury emphasizes that Ila school has a clear, evidence-based and targeted leadership that works to empower all staff in the school and SFO, and to create a good and inclusive school for all.

– This is great fun, and a great inspiration for the work we do.

Inclusion applies to all children, wherever they come from.

They should feel safe and be part of a class community, and only then can they realize their full learning potential, says Rector Trude Mathisen at the Trondheim municipality’s website.

It is the Queen herself who initiated the award, which was this year awarded for the eleventh time. The prize consists of a diploma, a cash prize of NOK 250,000 and a woodcut by the artist Eli Hovdenak.
