University of Oslo is the highest placed Nordic university, according to a recent ranking which measures web presence, web visibility and web access. The University is at 11th place among the Europan universities.
The ranking has been made by the Spanish ranking agency Webometrics and the University of Oslo ends up just ahead of the University of Helsinki, which is at 12th place. Copenhagen University is at 14th place, while Sweden’s most visible university online, Uppsala University, ends up on 28th-place.
– We must be critical of such ratings, there are important issues relating to interpretation and methods. But for lack of a better yardstick, we can not ignore these rankings and it’s obviously nice that the University are among the very best universities in Europe according to the criteria used in these rankings, Headmaster of UiO, Ole Petter Ottersen, says to the online newspaper uniforum.
British universities dominate the European list with seven educational institutions in the top ten. The University of Oxford is at the top of the European ranking. The University of Bergen ends up on 45. space and NTNU on 67-space.
Globally, Harvard gets the top ranking, ahead of eight other American universities. Oxford ends up on 10th place.
