University of Oslo (UiO) lands on 67th place in a ranking of the world’s 500 best universities – nine notches back from 58th place last year.

The so-called Shanghai ranking comes out annually and is compiled by Jiaotong University in Shanghai.

Two other Norwegian universities are also on the 2016 list: the University of Bergen (UiB) and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, and both rated at the same level as last year.

NTNU is ranked amongst the world’s 101-150 best universities, while UiB placed somewhere between 201 -300.

Top of the list thrones Harvard University in the US. Eight of the top ten universities are located in the United States, whilst two are in the UK.
