Agriculture recycles plastic more than most people
Agriculture is among the best to recycle plastic with a recycling rate of 85 per cent. For Norwegian households, the figure is 38 per cent of the plastic.
Figures from Statistics Norway show that 18,432 metric ton of plastic were collected from Norwegian agriculture last year, writes the agricultural newspaper Nationen. That is 13 per cent more than in 2016.
– According to our calculations, the plastic return from agriculture corresponds to a material recovery rate of 85.6 per cent, says Communications Adviser in Green Point Norway (Grønt Punkt), Arve Martinsen.
– The high proportion entails that agriculture is actually among the very top of the class regarding plastic recycling in Norway. The corresponding recycling rate for plastic from Norwegian households is about 38.4 per cent, according to Martinsen.
Green Point has hairy ambitions on behalf of Norwegian households too. The aim is to increase the recycling rate immensely in the years to come. Martinsen says that this will be achieved through better sorting arrangements in the receiving apparatus, among other measures.
