Asylum arrival to Norway are smaller than the government was preparing. More than 1.1 billion is now spent on empty reception centers around the country.

Spending on unused capacity in emergency accommodation of asylum seekers budgeted to about 258 million NOK in 2015 and around 374 million NOK in the first half of this year. Actual figures for ordinary reception centers was 122 million NOK last year and 391 million NOK in the first six months of this year.

That adds up to more than 1.1 billion NOK and then the costs of the two major arrival centers excluded. The ministry stated in an answer that immigration and integration minister Sylvi Listhaug earlier this summer got a written question from the Centre Party Heidi Greni.

The projections are based on a utilization rate of 100 percent and even the minister states that are not realistic. It is common to budget with an occupancy of 85 percent on an annual basis in a normal situation.
