More children eligible for free core-time in kindergartens

From August 1st, another 6,600 children will be eligible for free core-time in Norwegian kindergartens.

The core-time scheme provides low-income families with the right to have 20 hours of free stay in the kindergarten every week.

The scheme applies to children between the ages 3 and 5 years, and the income barrier will be raised this year so that anyone with a gross family income below NOK 533,500 will be entitled to free core-time. Last year the income limit was NOK 450,000.

– This means that more children have the opportunity to be a part of the community while giving parents the opportunity to participate in the workplace. Good for the children, parents and family, says Member of Parliament Guri Melby (Liberals).

The reduction in payment does however not occur automatically. One must apply at the municipality to be included in the scheme.
