Restaurant Maaemo gets top listing with three stars in the new Michelin Guide for Norden. It is an honor that is shared by only a little over 100 restaurants in the world.
The news were made public when the Michelin Nordic Guide 2016 was presented at the Hotel d’Angleterre in Copenhagen on Wednesday morning.
– This is a great moment, said the Michelin guide international director Michael Ellis.
Danish chef Esben Holmboe Bang is the man behind Maaemo.
– I’ve made food for 17 years now. I started in Denmark, moved around and then I went to Oslo, he said during the awards ceremony.
In the new Nordic guide gets Kontrast in Oslo and Re-Naa in Stavanger also get one star each.
Geranium in Copenhagen also received three stars. According to Ellis, this has been a record year for the Nordic countries.
– There are over 20,000 restaurants in the Michelin guide today. Around 2,600 restaurants of th restaurants in the guide get stars, and just over 100 restaurants get three stars, he pointed out.
Maaemo in Oslo already had two stars, while Statholdergaarden and Fauna in Oslo both have had one star.
In Bergen the ceremony in Copenhagen was viewed great excitement, because the cover of the new guide featured a photo from Bergen. But the hope was punctured – no Bergen restaurants received any stars in the new guide.
