Two out of ten smokers believe the health risks of smoking are greatly exaggerated. Meanwhile, six out of ten are considering quitting, according to a new survey.
The study was done by Respons Analyse Medical Officer. It shows that ever third smoker has tried to quit two to three times. The study was published in conjunction with a new smoking cessation campaign from the Health Directorate.

The targeted were particularly at risk for lung cancer, the cancer most Norwegians die from.

According to the survey, every fifth smoker does not know the common symptoms of the disease.

“Over 2,000 people die from lung cancer each year. That is too many. Coughing can be a symptom of lung disease, and chronic coughing should be investigated.”

It is advisable to examine your lung function if you smoke, have symptoms, and are over 40 years of age, according to Health Director Bjorn Guldvog.

The survey shows that six out of ten smokers – as many as are considering quitting – worry about how smoking affects health.
