Unhealthy food has become a bigger challenge to public health than smoking, according to a report from the NIPH.
If one looks at all the age groups as a whole, an unhealthy diet now is the biggest challenge of the lifestyle challenges that affect our health, according the report, which was presented on Tuesday.
– Not because unhealthy diet is more dangerous than smoking, but because there are fewer Norwegians who smoke, than Norwegians who eat unhealthy food. Since 1990 the proportion of smokers in Norway decreased from 35 to 13 percent, Stein Emil Vollset, head of the newly created Public Health Centre for disease burden, says.
