Over 100,000 near harvest ready salmon died in a Marine Harvest plant at Hidrasund in Oslo.

– We had abnormally high amounts of fish that died late last week. There was abnormal and very difficult current conditions. It made a lot of fish die in the plant, says communications manager Ola Helge Hjetland of Marine Harvest to the newspaper Agder.

Hjetland says that the special currents were so strong that it made it difficult for fish to swim against the current as they normally do.

The communications boss does not agree with the value of the loss, but confirms that it was fish that were soon ready for slaughter.

The newspaper Agder have calculated that they are probably talking about the loss of over 400 tons of fish. With a total value of 70 million kroner, They may be talking about values of around 30 million lost.

FSA was notified, and Marine Harvest is monitoring the situation closely and continuously assessing what measures should be taken.
