The government will provide additional funds for municipalities in the South and Western Norway with high unemployment. Newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad thinks we are talking about 150 million to 200 million kroner.
The money will go to municipalities in Southern and Western Norway where unemployment is higher than the national average, the newspaper said. The support kicks in if unemployment is above 3.1 percent, and will give a certain amount per unemployed person above this limit.
For Stavanger and Sandnes, who have respectively 5 and 5.5 percent unemployment, it means tens of millions extra in grants.
– We have been told that Stavanger’s share of these funds will be at around 48 million, said Mayor Christine Sagen Helgø . His Sandnes colleague Stanley Wirak were not aware of the additional funding, but is ready to put money to work if the information is correct. Sandnes will be receiving about around 30 million, writes Aftenbladet, who “has reason to believe” that the entire stimulus package is around 150 to NOK 200 million.
– Now that the municipalities have received what they requested, they must help follow the government’s goal of reducing unemployment, says parliament member Arve Kambe about what he calls “extra funds to Rogaland.”
