SAS and Norwegian are cutting routes after an airline passenger fee was introduced in May. It goes beyond domestic routes and scheduled holiday routes next summer.

– We are now starting to see the real consequences of the air passenger tax, said communication manager at Norwegian, Lasse Sandakerveien-Nielsen, to the newspaper Aftenposten.

All flights now have a seat fee of 80 kroner.
The airline is reducing the route Oslo-Alta and has announced the closure of Ålesund-London and a number of direct flights from Vaernes.

Competitor SAS has also noticed the reduction of the number of passengers and will reduce the supply period towards summer.

– We are experiencing a certain decline in demand due to the air passenger tax.

We are currently holding back what would have been exciting plans for 2017, including several direct flights from Oslo airport, communication manager at SAS, Knut Morten Johansen, told the newspaper.

Like Norwegian, SAS’ cuts are mainly domestic, including Alesund and Kristiansund.

Saturday saw the last Ryanair flight take off from Moss Airport Rygge and thus hit the nail in the coffin for the civilian operations of the airport.

The company is starting eight new routes from Torp airport in Sandefjord during the winter.
