Avinor believes there will be a need for a new runway at Oslo airport by 2030.

A third runway will have a major effect and is will be profitable for the whole of society,  Avinor and other transportation agencies write in their proposal for a new National Transport Plan (NTP).
The agencies also supports halving greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector by 2030. According to the proposal, this is not an obstacle to developing the country’s largest airport.

–  The greenhouse gas emissions that will occur as a consequence of a third runway should be considered in connection with the alternatives to development, and the expectations of technological development and implementation of biofuels, according to the proposal.
The explanation does not satisfy the Green Party, which advises the Minister of Transport Ketil Solvik-Olsen (FRP) to scrap the proposal.
– Despite the promises of environmental progress the greenness of the air industry currently are like a few tufts of grass on the runway. Even biofuels would not be able to cover more than a fraction of  the energy needs of the air industry, their parliamentary representative Rasmus Hansson says.
