Best salmon catch in ten years

The quantity of sea salmon and trout has been high in Norway this year.In Rogaland and West Agder,the catch has almost doubled since last season.

The total catch of sea salmon and trout for the 2018 season was 323 tonnes of salmon and 5 tonnes of trout.This was an increase of 11% for salmon and 9% for sea trout over last year, according to Statistics Norway.

In the largest county for seafood,Finnmark, the catch fell 5% from the previous year to 132 tonnes.Finnmark accounts for 40% of the total salmon fish caught from the sea.Fishermen also experienced a decline of 5% in Trøndelag.In all other counties, however,the catch increased.

Rogaland and West Agder almost doubled the catch for sea salmon this season compared with last year.Fishermen in these counties caught,respectively,27.3 and 27.5 tonnes in 2018 and contributed strongly to the country-based results being the best in ten years.
