The European Commission has approved Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn on condition that the US technology giant allows for fair competition.

To get the acquisition approved Microsoft promised amongst other things not to force producers and retailers of PCs to install LinkedIn application on PCs using the Windows operating system.

Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn to a value of 26 billion Euros was announced in June. The acquisition is the largest ever in the social media history.

– Today’s decision ensures that Europeans will still be able to choose between professional networks, said the EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager when the approval was announced Tuesday.
