Unemployment is high among engineers. Now the government proposes new rules where unemployed engineers can study for ten days without losing unemployment benefits, writes newspaper Aftenposten.

The Minister of Labour Anniken Hauglie proposes amendments that will permit unemployed engineers  ten days of study per semester without losing  their unemployment benefits, Aftenposten writes .
7.760 engineers are registered as unemployed in the wake of the downturn in the oil industry. At the same time engineers are needed in other sectors.
– The reason is the increase in unemployment among engineers. Earlier on an unemployed person would lose the right to unemployment benefits if he or she was took part in lectures or sessions with other students in connection with his or her studies for one day or more. We see that this is too strict and believe the new rules will provide a greater opportunity for the unemployed engineers to acquire relevant skills,  Hauglie says to Aftenposten.
