After seven years of residency in Norway, half of the quota refugees are in work, but not all work full time. Most of the men are in work.

Statistics from Statistics Norway show that only 8,000 quota refugees have arrived in the last three years and that one third of them come from Syria.

The figures also show that the proportion employment is  increasing with the time spent in Norway. After seven years, about half of migrant workers are working, including those who combine work and education. The proportion of education is greatest after three to four years of residence, and then it is declining.

The proportion of men in employment or education is 30 per cent, compared to 20 per cent for women. 66 percent of the men work 30 hours or more each week, while for women the proportion is 45 percent.

This is significantly lower than the average for the whole population, according to Statistics Norway.

By the end of 2017, 35,500 quota refugees (also referred to as “refugees”) resided in Norway, according to Statistics Norway figures.

These amounted to 16 per cent of all persons with refugee backgrounds and 5 per cent of the total number of immigrants in Norway. Quota refugees are people who have been transferred to and settled in Norway by organisations such as  the United Nations.
