Elkem Solar has received 700 applications for the 66 positions advertised for its new silicon factory. Eight years ago, the company had to announce the available positions several times to obtain the expertise it needed.

The popular job advertisements has been available for five days after Elkem Solar  announced on Friday that it will start production in REC Wafer Norway’s old premises at Herøya in Porsgrunn, type TU.
After a rebuilding period, the plant at Porsgrunn will start production of high-grade silicon blocks for the solar industry.
The positions advertised includes everything from operations and management to shift operators, process engineers and other support functions. About half of the applications that have been received, are from former employees of REC Wafer Norway.
There are still a few weeks left before the deadlines expires, 5th and March 15th. The situation was quite different in 2008 and 2009, when Elkem Solar was recruiting workers to its silicon factory on Fiskå in Kristiansand.
