Increase in fixed broadband subscriptions

There are almost 2 083 000 fixed broadband subscriptions in Norway. Eighty-four per cent of households have fixed broadband.

The number of private broadband subscriptions with fixed access in Norway, including Svalbard, was 1 947 000 in the third quarter of 2016. Compared to the same quarter last year, this is an increase of 65 000 subscriptions.

In total, the calculated broadband penetration rate in the third quarter of 2016 is 84 per cent, compared to 83 per cent in the previous quarter.

Large one-year increase in private broadband speed
The average transmission capacity for fixed private broadband has increased by 35 per cent to 44.8 Mbit/s in the third quarter of 2016 compared to the same quarter in 2015. In the second quarter of 2016, the average transmission capacity was 43.0 Mbit/s.

The median value increased from 26.3 to 26.9 Mbit/s from the second to the third quarter of 2016. Compared to the third quarter of 2015, the median value has increased by 10 per cent. The median value for business broadband has increased to 13.4 Mbit/s from 10.4 Mbit/s in the third quarter of 2015.
