After the first eight months of the year, NSB has increased 8.1% of passengers compared to the same period last year.

The total registered by NSB was 44,450,208 trips for the first eight months of 2018, compared with 41,131,781 journeys in the same period in 2017.

“That so many take the train is important to the environment, and to get the total traffic, especially around the cities, flowing well,” said Arne Fosen, Executive Vice President of NSB Persontog in a press release.

The increase in the number of travellers also involves capacity problems and full trains.

“There are regularly new trains on the rail, and we work to use the trains and timetables we have for the benefit of our customers,” Fosen emphasised.

The exception is the Nordlandsbanen between Trondheim and Bodø, which fell by 3.8%. Also, a few local train reports indicate a slight decrease in traffic. This applies to the stretches of Trondheim-Røros, Bodø-Rognan and Kongsberg-Eidsvoll.

NSB’s local train in the Oslo area had an increase of 9% in the number of trips.
