The Lithuanian Defense Ministry is negotiating to acquire the Norwegian NASAMS air defense system. Strengthened defense of NATO east flank is the purpose of the purchase.

The Norwegian weapon system nasams (NASAMS) will cost just under 1 billion NOK, according to Defense Minister Vaidotas Linkus.

If Lithuania decides to buy NASAMS, it will be the first of the Baltic States with such an air defense system.

In July NATO decided to send four forces of about a thousand soldiers each, to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, to help to draw a so-called “red line” against Russia.
