Many former employees of oil and gas from the southernmost part of Norway get a sick leave as soon as they become unemployed.

A number of people  employed doing oil-related activities have been fired or laid off in the souhternmost part of Norway lately.
– We notice a lot of concern and pessimism among these workers, and we have noticed a growing number who are laid off and have received notice of dismissal, , says head of Fast Association in Aust-Agder, Bodil Aasvang Olsen, says to the TV channel NRK.
She says there are several reasons why the unemployed or laid off will be on sick leave.
– They may experience psychological reactions and stress reactions that can have such severe symptoms that it makes them unable to work. Also I think that latent health problems become more visible when you are unemployed and have to find a new line of work and  to assess their opportunities on the work market and also taking their health into account, says Olsen.
