The Board of Moss Airport Rygge will be asking the state to buy the airport facility when operations close down after the summer season.

This  appears from a letter that the Board has submitted to the Minister of Transport Ketil Solvik-Olsen, reports the newspaper Aftenposten.

– The site is specially designed as an airport. It’s a shame not to make of use such large investments which can assist  Norwegian aviation in the future, said chairman Svein Hurlen .

He suggests that Rygge can act as a relief airport for Oslo Airport until a third runway is in place, as well as a contingency Airport during acute traffic disruptions.

The Ministry says they are working on a response to the proposal.
The civilian airport operations at Rygge ends on October 30, when the airport’s main client Ryanair, will discontinue its scheduled traffic. It will then be used only for military flight operations again, who do not need to use the facilities of the civilian airport.
