Nine out of ten tax-free goods are cheaper in online stores

A recent survey concludes that many popular tax-free goods are cheaper in online stores than they are in the stores at Oslo Airport.

Prisjakt.no (Price Hunt Norway) conducted a survey from March to May, where they compared prices at Oslo airport to various online stores.

“The main conclusion is that 90% of the products were cheaper in online stores than at duty-free. It’s probably quite sensational for many travellers, who think tax-free automatically means that things are cheap”, Chief of Prisjakt Norge, Carolina Appelqvist tells the newspaper Aftenposten.

The items they checked are typical tax-free products, such as cosmetics.

Varies from one month to the next

It is pointed out that prices vary somewhat from month to month, depending on offers, and that in some online stores you may also have to pay more.

“We have about 25% savings on perfume for the local market, but online stores are widely selected, and one must keep in mind that they are running offers and promotions or have a party purchases they are going to sell reasonably priced,” says communications manager of Travel Retail Norway (TRN), Haakon Dagestad. TRN operates the three tax-free shops at Oslo Airport.
