The country’s first filling station for liquid and compressed biogas opened Tuesday at Furuset outside Oslo.
The biogases in the Furuset pumps are made from food waste and organic waste from fish farming, and can eventually replace gasoline, diesel and natural gas.
“This is the first filling station for liquid and compressed biogas in Norway, and its the first of many to come. But we also need more production of biogas, and we need more vehicles going on biogas,” says climate and environmental minister Ola Elvestuen (V).
The biogas produces some pollution and Elvestuen believes this is an important step in the right direction to achieve the goals of the Paris agreement.
“To achieve the goals of the Paris agreement, we need to cut greenhouse gas emissions, and biogas is important for cutting emissions in the transportation sector,” he says.
