This means new orders for Norwegian gas, the industry thinks when considering the new initiative of EU on energy security.
– This is a very important day for Norway,  Karl Eirik Schjøtt-Pedersen of the organisation Norwegian Oil Industry Association said.
He visits Brussels on the  day the European Commission put forward a new energy package on the subject of energy security. The package makes it clear that the EU sees gas play an important part for a long time.
– Gas will remani an important part of our energy system up to 2030. It can be like a bridge between coal and renewable energy,  EU Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete  said to the press in Brussels.
– Gas is the cleanest of the fossil fuels, and it is clear that we need gas as in order to support an ambitious development of renewables, says Arias.
order
European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič has previously stated that the EU is going to need more or less the same volume of gas in 2030 as today.
Norway supplies about 20 percent of the gas Europe uses, and are very pleased with the signals.
– The European Commission makes it clear that gas is needed to meet Europe’s energy needs, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to develop renewable energy and to reduce emissions from the energy sector, says Schjøtt-Pedersen said.
– This means orders for Norwegian gas for a long, long time, he said.
Satisfied
Minister ofPetroleum and Energy Tord Lien (FRP) also states that he is satisfied with the energy package from Brussels.
– EU wants Norwegian gas, he said.
– Norway has substantial remaining gas resources and will be a long term and reliable supplier of gas to Europe.
