Norway exported seafood from the country for NOK 9.9 billion in October, making it the best month for seafood exporters ever.
– This is the best export month for Norwegian seafood ever. The export value for October this year is 600 million, or 6 per cent above the previous value record from October 2016, says Renate Larsen, CEO of Norway’s Seafood Council.
The total volume of exports was 12 per cent lower in October than in the same month last year, but the value of seafood exports increased by 10 per cent. So far this year, Norway has exported 2.2 million tonnes of seafood to a value of NOK 80.7 billion – 6 per cent increase in volume and 4 per cent, equivalent to NOK 3.2 billion in value.
Norwegian salmon exports also reached a new “all time high” in October, according to the Seafood Council. 104,000 tonnes of salmon worth 6.5 billion were shipped out of the country.
– October month hits all records and this has several reasons. It was a little weak September month, but exports have risen sharply now in October. Poland and the Netherlands, which are primarily refining markets, had a volume growth of 43 and 29 per cent in October, says seafood analyst Paul T. Aandahl in the Norwegian Seafood Council.
Norwegian salmon exports increased in volume by 8 per cent and in value by 15 per cent, corresponding to NOK 827 million, from October last year. Aandahl believes that the price increase is due to the fact that demand for Norwegian salmon is again growing internationally. Poland and France were the largest salmon markets.
So far this year, Norway has exported 862,000 tonnes of salmon for NOK 55.8 billion. This is a volume increase of 7 per cent, while the value increased by 5 per cent or NOK 2.5 billion from the same period last year.
