Havila Shipping has lost a contract with Brazilian Petrobras, which because of local regulations have given the assignment to a local player.

The contract for Havila Fortress originally had a duration until July 2016,  the company said in a press statement Tuesday.

“The contract was blocked by local tonnage and the certificate for the operation in Brazil was not renewed,” the Sunnmøre-based company writes .

As late as February this year, Petrobras terminated the contract for the lease of another Havila vessel, Havila Faith.
The company – which is headquartered in Fosnavåg and employs 800 people – has recently been in negotiations with its creditors because of a deep debt crisis.
