This year, Norwegians plan to spend around 9,5 million celebrating Christmas. That is an average of 3.5 million more than our neighbouring countries, shows a recent survey.

The amount for the Christmas budget is 60% more than the Danes’, who will spend approximately 6 million, shows the study, conducted by TNS Gallup for Nordea.

The Swedish Christmas spending is 5 million, while the Finnish are at around 4.6 million.

‘The Swedes, Danes and Finns are more moderate than we Norwegians at Christmas.

Presents, especially, are a major cost to us, but also on food, decorations and other Christmas goods, our consumption is ahead of our Nordic neighbors. That is something to dwell upon’, commented consumer economist, Elin Reitan, of Nordea.
