Around 200,000 Airbnb users booked a place to stay for their stay in Norway last year. Innovation Norway estimates that they together accounted for one million nights.
The newspaper Dagens Næringsliv has gained access to statistics from residential placement service Airbnb. It shows that 197.000 Airbnb booked one or more nights from the Norwegians who rented out their rooms.
– If we can make an estimate that this represents approximately one million nights with guests a year, Airbnb  can not be said to be a very big threat to the more than 30 million guest nights of the tourism industry,  tourism director Per-Arne Tuftin in Innovation Norway says.
He is supported by the Norwegian Tourism Association.
– The Operators Airbnb does not constitute any threat but helps in creating a greater diversity in the tourism industry. The guest will get more options, making a destination more interesting, says director Kristin Krohn Devold in Norwegian Hospitality Association.
The statistics show that there are  7,900 Norwegian Airbnb-landlords in total, who on average earned 22.500 kroner through the service last year. 89 percent of those who rent through Airbnb live at the place themselves when not renting it out. On average they rented out for 26 guest nights, and guests stayed on average 3.3 nights.
