A strike in the banks could hit you.

Online banking and debit cards may cease to work if operational problems arise during a strike in the financial industry. Payments to retirees and disability benefits may also be affected.
Over 21,000 employees in the banking and financial industry could go out on Thursday morning.

The LO and the Federation of Finance will remove all of its members if the ‘Riksmekleren’ doesn’t find a solution with all the parties.

If the strike becomes a fact, it could have major consequences.

“If you have important transactions that have to be completed by the end of this week, you may want to be a bit early,” said Jan Erik Fåne,Communications Director of Finance Norway.

What kind of transactions then?

“Property transfers or settlements where you rely on the money coming out,so it may be wise to keep up with the bank’s website to keep up to date,’’advised Fåne.

All payment services will be available if there is a strike, until problems arise with the systems that need to be repaired and require the supervision of people.

If operating problems arise, most of the payment services could be closed. The
systems are complicated and may depend on each other.
