Record accommodation in July

The month of July was a good  month for Norwegian hotels. The number of nights spent in hotel rooms passed 3.1 million, which is 8 percent higher than the same month last year and a new record for the month of July.

July is the big vacation month for Norwegian hotels, with holidaymakers, Norwegians and foreigners. Foreign tourists accounted for 1.2 million of the July overnight stays, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB). 74 per cent of overnight stays in July were related to holiday and leisure.

The travel industry has reason to be satisfied in several areas. The number of overnight stays at campsites and holiday villages went up, respectively 13 and 10 percent.

In Svalbard 18,000 lodgings registered in July, it is 14 percent more compared to the same month of last year.

Norway is most popular with Germans, which alone accounts for 448,931 guest nights in Norwegian hotels, campgrounds, cabins and hostels. Then follows Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, USA, UK, France and China.
