2.7 million passengers flew with SAS in October. That’s 3.3 percent more than in the same month last year.

According to SAS’s traffic figures “lay load factor” – how full planes are – were at 78.7 percent, which is the highest load factor SAS has ever recorded for a month of October.

SAS writes in a press release that the progress is due to a positive development for SAS’s intercontinental routes and domestic routes in Denmark and Sweden.

But even if the load factor is at record levels, according to SAS, they operate in an increasingly challenging market.

The price of jet fuel has risen in the fall, while the dollar has strengthened against the Swedish krona.

The company’s revenue per seat per kilometer – the so-called yield, fell more than expected in 2016. The decline in October was 12 percent.

– All in all, this will have a significant impact on economic development in the August to October, it goes up by the press release.

SAS CEO Rickard Gustafson says to Dagens Næringsliv that yield pressure means that SAS must continue to streamline operations.
