Nearly 2.5 million passengers flew with SAS in July. This is an increase of 4.3 percent and the best July month for the company ever. Meanwhile, competitor Norwegian has an even larger number of passengers this month.

According to traffic figures for SAS load factor – how full planes are – 88.2 percent of seats were sold, up 1.2 percentage points from July last year. This is the highest load factor SAS has had in a single month, according to a stock exchange announcement.

– Demand for long-distance traffic, leisure travel in Europe and domestic traffic continues to increase, the company said.

Meanwhile SAS reports that increased competition and lower fuel prices have lead to increased company yield – revenue per seat per kilometer – more than expected.

In July, Norwegian flew 2,925,882 passengers on its scheduled and charter flights. This represented an increase of 9 percent from the same month last year, according to figures that were presented before the weekend. Including charter flights SAS had 2.744 million passengers this month.
