Norwegian SAS pilots who are willing to work on their days off can make up to 25,000 kroner extra in salary per day.

Petter Førde, leader of the Norwegian Pilot Association confirms the lucrative agreement with Flysmart24.no. Normally, work on holidays is paid by a 14 percent of their gross monthly salary. Due to the crisis situation this summer, SAS has now doubled that offer, to 28 percent.

“This means that captains with seniority in the company can clearly earn up to 25,000 kroner to work an extra day,” says Førde.

SAS has experienced critical pilot shortages this summer, which has forced the airline to cancel 500 departures. The cancellations have created major problems for desperate passengers who have not come to and from summer vacation as planned.

In order to make sure pilots are enough to staff as much of the flight fleet as possible, the company is dependent on pilots being able to willfully work on their days off.
